Wolf 359 ended and despite it ripping out my heart, tossing it on the floor, stepping on it and turning and twisting it’s heels while stepping on it several times.. it was a GREAT SHOW. Thank you so much to the whole team for bringing us this absolute gem of a podcast. If you need something to keep you entertained while drawing or whatever and like space adventures.. PLEASE try Wolf 359!

Also special thanks to @eulenstadt for introducing me to podcast hell and advisory help with this pic.

ALSO.. AS ALWAYS.. I am drawn to the worst of people so OF COURSE I like the SI-5 best.. HRRRR-

Can i talk to yall about Betelgeuse for a bit? Of the thousands of stars visible from Earth, it is one of the top 10 brightest. Found in the left shoulder of the Orion constellation, Betelgeuse is a Red Supergiant that is in its final stages of life. (Exciting)

    image

But heres the interesting part. It started acting really weird a few years ago.

Betelgeuse is a big star. 700 times the size of our sun, its only 10 million years old, and because of its size it burned through its hydrogen WAY faster than our 4.5 billion year old star. In fact, humans have witnessed a significant shift in color.

According to historical records, Betelgeuse used to be described as a yellow star up until 2,000 years ago, when poets began describing it as red. [x] You can tell a lot about a star by its color. heres a neat chart. if you enjoy categorizing things, you can use it to class stars you see in the sky. its fun, i promise…,, ,

    image

Anyways, for as long as we’ve been scientifically observing it, Betelgeuse will dim and then return to its usual brightness in a 400 day cycle. Sure, you do you. Have fun out there doing that.

Except in February of 2019, it dimmed by 35 percent and didn’t brighten again until April of the next year. Its still has a dim/bright cycle, except now its 200 days, half of what it used to be.

    image

(left is before the dimming, right is after) No one knew what the hell was going on. It took a bit to sort through the theories but now they think they know what caused it. A Surface Mass Ejection, the star coughed up some of its internal material and shot it out, causing a cloud to form for a bit. Our sun does this too, but not on the scale as Betelgeuse.

It won’t nova anytime soon, by human standards (10,000 years at the earliest) Still its absolutely fascinating. Getting to witness these significant stages. Learning more about the life cycle of a star, and how they act as they near the end of their life. Stellar evolution in real time. Its cool.

    Smile Bomb

Okay, how the hell. This is THE most crystal clear version of Smile Bomb I’ve listened to, and the creditless opening video is also like SHARP, like holy shit this is as if it were released TODAY type of clarity and it’s messing with me.
